The unfinished-work field guide
The real reason that “simple” task has been sitting for six months.
It may be small in effort and enormous in ambiguity. That is not the same thing as laziness.
Small tasks can hide big decisions
“Update the website” might contain a positioning decision, missing photos, an approval problem, three logins, and the fear that touching one page will break another. The visible task is small. The invisible task is not.
Shame makes the brief worse
The longer something sits, the more energy goes into explaining the delay. Useful context gets replaced by apology. We would rather hear the messy version: what exists, what hurts, and what done would change.
Shrink the finish
The first finish may not be the whole project. It may be choosing the message, publishing one credible page, or making one handoff document. A smaller finish creates movement without pretending the rest does not exist.
